What is Rooibos tea?

Rooibos, or Red Bush tea is made from the fermented leaves of the Aspalathus linearis shrub, which is native to South Africa. It is a caffeine-free alternative to regular tea such as black, green, white, or Oolong, which all come from the Camellia Sinensis plant and contain caffeine.

Rooibos has a reddish-brown colour and can be enjoyed on its own or with milk and sugar.

What is Honeybush tea?

Honeybush tea is another caffeine-free beverage from South Africa, It comes from the Cyclopia plant.

How does Rooibos tea taste?

Rooibos is naturally sweet, earthy, and slightly nutty with notes of orange and clove.

Honeybush, like Rooibos, is naturally sweet. It is smooth and woody, with notes of honey and caramel.

Are there different types of Rooibos tea?

As well as classic Rooibos, green Rooibos is also available. Green Rooibos comes from the unfermented leaves of the Aspalathus linearis shrub. There are also many flavoured versions of Rooibos, such as Blood Orange, Gingerbread and Caramel.

Some of our Rooibos bestsellers are Blood Orange, Vanilla and African Mint. Our fruity Blood Orange Rooibos is blended with safflower, and natural blood orange flavouring. Vanilla Rooibos contains natural bourbon vanilla extract and natural tonka flavouring and is from organic cultivation; African Mint is a refreshing blend of Green Rooibos and Spearmint.

Are there different types of Honeybush tea?

Like Rooibos, many flavoured versions of Honeybush are available such as our Honeybush Chocolate Cake, which has a lovely chocolate note. Rooibos and Honeybush can also be blended to make a Rooibos-Honeybush tea.

How do you brew Rooibos tea?

To brew Rooibos, use one teaspoon per cup, infuse in just boiled water, and leave to steep for 3- 5 minutes.

Honeybush is brewed in the same way as Rooibos, use one teaspoon per cup, infuse in just boiled water, and leave to steep for 3- 5 minutes. Honey can be added to sweeten.

Both Rooibos and Honeybush are caffeine free and so can be enjoyed at any time of the day.

What are the health benefits of Rooibos and Honeybush tea?

Rooibos and Honeybush are believed to have many health benefits. Both are caffeine-free, low in tannins and rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants may help protect cells from damage by free radicals and may also reduce your risk of certain chronic conditions, such as heart disease and cancer.

Rooibos or Red Bush from South Africa is thought to aid weight loss. It contains Aspalathin, an antioxidant, which is found only in Rooibos. Aspalathin is believed to increase leptin levels, which regulate appetite. Research is ongoing.
